| Named for the leopard-like pattern on their bodies, these harmless sharks eat small fishes, crustaceans and worms. Abundant in several habitats—from kelp forests to sloughs—along the Pacific coast from Oregon to Baja California. They can grow to over six feet long. |

| Fished by commercial and recreational anglers. Restrictions in California and Oregon waters have helped protect the population. Little is known of their status in Mexico. |
