Animal Guide

Lives in shallow waters throughout the Western South Pacific; often seen close to coral reefs and in tide pools. One of the smallest sharks in the world—the average adult grows to only about three feet in length. This shark is named for the distinctive, large black spot above each pectoral fin.

Wild populations appear healthy, probably because epaulette sharks are not of interest to commercial fisheries.

None.

These sharks use their highly mobile, paired fins to clamber around tide pools and hunt for invertebrates caught in crevices during low tides.
