| Lives in shallow waters throughout the Western South Pacific; often seen close to coral reefs and in tide pools. One of the smallest sharks in the worldthe average adult grows to only about three feet in length. This shark is named for the distinctive, large black spot above each pectoral fin. |

| Wild populations appear healthy, probably because epaulette sharks are not of interest to commercial fisheries. |
