The Aquarium, believing it is possible to have healthy oceans and keep seafood in our diet, makes a strong public statement for conservation of ocean wildlife by purchasing and serving seafood only from sustainable, well-managed fisheries. Requests from members and visitors for us to share our recommendations leads to creation of our Seafood Watch online program and pocket guide to sustainable seafood choices. The wallet-sized card and online guide explain our recommendations.Seafood Watch Grows and ShinesTIME Magazine includes Seafood Watch recommendations in its special Earth Day 2000 issue. The White House Council on Environmental Quality requests copies to distribute to White House staff, and the Center for Marine Conservation mails 2,000 guides along with its annual Health of the Oceans report. Guides are distributed to the Aquarium's vendors and to local markets. |
